Fat Transfer
What is Fat Transfer?
Fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, fat injection, or lipofilling, is a surgical procedure where fat is removed from one part of the body and injected into another area to enhance volume and contour.
Why Have a Fat Transfer?
The aim of this procedure is to replace or increase volume at the recipient site. The transferred fat can add volume and improve the contour of the target area, addressing volume loss due to ageing, weight loss, or other factors.
Common areas targeted for fat transfer:
Facial Rejuvenation
Smooth out wrinkles, fine lines, and hollow areas, enhancing your facial contours and restoring a youthful look.
Breast Augmentation
Achieve a natural increase in breast volume without implants, perfect for subtle enhancements and correcting asymmetry.
Buttock Enhancement
Also known as a Brazilian Butt Lift, this procedure enhances the shape and size of your buttocks, creating a more defined and lifted appearance.
Hand Rejuvenation
Restore volume to ageing hands, making veins and tendons less visible and giving your hands a more youthful appearance.
How is Fat Transfer Surgery Performed?
1. Harvesting the Fat
Fat is typically removed from areas with excess fat, such as the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks, using liposuction. This involves the use of a cannula (a thin tube) and a vacuum device to suction out the fat.
2. Purification
The harvested fat is then filtered and washed with saline to purify it and remove any blood or excess oil.
3. Placement
The purified fat is carefully injected into the target area via small ‘stab incisions’. Your surgeon injects the fat in small amounts at various depths to ensure even distribution and natural-looking results.
