Blepharoplasty – Eyelid Reduction
What is Blepharoplasty Surgery?
Eyelid surgery also known as blepharoplasty, is a procedure designed to address any skin and/or muscle excess and to contour the eyelid fat. A blepharoplasty can be performed as a standalone procedure or address both upper and lower eyelids or alongside other facial procedures, such as brow lift or a face lift. It offers a range of aesthetic and functional advantages.
Why Have a Blepharoplasty?
Reverse Signs of Ageing
As we grow older, our muscles and eyelid septum weaken, and skin loses its firmness. The eyelids may develop folds and creases (sometimes hanging over the upper eyelashes) and the fat can protrude creating a baggy / puffy appearance. Some individuals may have a genetic predisposition to developing bags at a young age. These changes can be more noticeable in the morning and after period of stress and inadequate sleep.
Improve Vision
Blepharoplasty can also improve peripheral vision in cases where overhanding skin obstructs sight. This can make daily activities like reading and driving safer and more comfortable
Enhance Facial Expressions
Age-related eyelid changes can lead to a heavy and tired appearance regardless of how you feel. A blepharoplasty can address these issues producing a fresher, brighter and rejuvenated look – ‘opening up’ the eye region.
How is Blepharoplasty Surgery Performed?
The procedures can be performed with (along natural creases) or without external incisions (transconjunctival). Tailored management of the skin, muscle and fat volume is undertaken, and this may sometimes be in combination with additional procedures to support or reposition the eyelid.
