Labiaplasty
What is Labiaplasty Surgery?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to reduce the size or change the shape of the labia minora of the external female genitalia.
Why Have Labiaplasty Surgery?
Patients may request labiaplasty for a variety of reasons including:
- Feeling self-conscious or unhappy about the size or shape of their labia
- To correct an asymmetry in size or shape of the labia
- For functional reasons e.g. discomfort during activities such as cycling, running, sexual intercourse or due to tugging or chafing when wearing clothing that fits closely to the groin.
It is important that you understand that there is no standard size, shape or colour for any genitalia including the labia. The average length of the labia from the base to the edge is around 2cm, however it is normal for labia to be larger or smaller than this. Asymmetry in labial size and shape is also very common and can occur as a result of hormonal changes, childbirth or age.
How is Labiaplasty Surgery Performed?
Trim Method
This involves trimming away excess tissue from the edges of the labia minora.
Wedge Method
This technique removes a wedge-shaped piece of tissue from the labia minora, preserving the natural edge. Your surgeon will choose the most appropriate technique based on your anatomy and desired outcome.
